Unit 30 course forms part of the GUEST Management Programme and is designed to meet the occupational duties to qualify for the onboard Chief Steward/ess role. It covers the incredibly broad landscape of expectations that come with the position these days.

The goal? To support you in confidently handling the broad spectrum of expectations of the position, and manage a team that makes everyone wonder HOW you do it!

  2. Build your DREAM team by understanding how to communicate with recruiters and absolutely nail interviews with candidates. 
  3. Confidently manage stress, disputes, and conflict within a team without going into a panic and create GREAT vibes that leave others thinking, “I LOVE WORKING HERE!’.
  4. Deal with the seemingly daunting hurdle of crew well-being like a boss (literally and figuratively), create a positive environment, and understand what different team members may need from you as a leader. 
  5. Confidently know how to build, manage and mentor a team, maintaining professionalism and emotional intelligence. 
  6. Understand the bridge banter about legal jargon, and what is actually meant by different Conventions and Codes (STCW, MLC, and MARPOL to name a few)

In addition to the course, we’ve teamed up with Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA), which is the leading provider of mental health in England, to provide a Mental Health First Aid course within our curriculum. Not only will you walk away with another certificate, but you also become a part of a community where everyone can talk freely about mental health and seek support when they need it.

The Training Day is broken down into two sections.

Section 1:

  • About Mental Health First Aid
  • About mental health and stress in the workplace
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Other mental health issues (eating disorders, self-harm, psychosis)
  • Early warning signs of mental ill health

    Yes! You will receive an official IAMI GUEST certificate and a Mental Health Champion certificate from MHFA England.

    The IAMI GUEST Program is the only internationally recognised large yacht industry Qualification and assessment standard.

  • What are the GUEST prerequisites for this course?

    A total of no less than 24 months of onboard experience with 120 days of guests-on (Guest-on days include any days with guests onboard or day service such as serving lunch, dinner, or canapés & drinks); half this time should have been completed while employed in a senior position onboard.

  • How Long Do I Have to Complete the Course?

    You have a full year to complete the course, having all assignments submitted and marked before the 365 days are over. 

  • How Challenging is the Course? 

    The course is not challenging in the sense that you need to be incredibly academic to complete it. However, stepping into a leadership position does hold a lot of responsibility, and it will require effort. However, it is laid out in an easy-to-understand way, and our TYSA trainers are with you every step of the way.
